This December, we at Tharpa Choeling Nunnery were deeply fortunate to attend the sacred Kagyu Monlam at the most holy site of Bodhgaya, India, in the presence of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Thaye Dorje, together with many highly respected Rinpoches and members of the Sangha.
Following the Monlam, we were blessed to undertake a pilgrimage to the Four Great Holy Sites at Bodhgaya, Varanasi, Lumbini, and Kushinagar, together with a devoted group of Kirtipur Amala and Apala. This journey of faith and devotion greatly enriched our practice and strengthened our connection to the Buddha’s life and teachings.

With no limit to the pursuit of knowledge,Ani Wangmo, Ani Özer Lhamo, Ani Dechen Wangmo, Ani Nyima Butri, together with the two younger companions, have now journeyed to the esteemed Sakya Nuns’ College in India, to study the profound scriptures and traditions of the Dharma.

Today in Marang Village, Lama Palbar, Lama Tsultrim Tenpa and Lama Sherap Dorje completed the consecration of the stupa of the most revered past Shangpa Rinpoche.

Today, we anis, together with our Ama group, have the good fortune of going for a pilgrimage at Risheshor in Nepal. Our schooling anis have a two weeks summer break and they joined us happily.
Risheshor, aka Chumig Jangchub, is a holy place for both Buddhists and Hindus. For Buddhists, this is a place where Guru Rinpoche stayed and meditated as he made his way to Tibet. It was a several hours drive from Kathmandu to this holy place. The entire hilly surroundings is full of blooming rhododendrons.

Marpa Lotsawa and Jetsun Milrepa are important realized masters of Kagyu tradition. They are also exemplary examples of teacher and student relationship in Vajrayana.
Marpa, a renowned teacher and translator who brought Vajrayana teachings from India to Tibet, and Milarepa, a great Mahasiddha and poet who became a student of Marpa and a prominent master of the Kagyu school.
On their anniversaries on the first full moon of the Tibetan lunar month, we held a two days prayers 13-14 March 2025 in our Kirtipur gompa and made supplication to both masters and receive blessings from them.

Gyalsten, nephew of late Mayumla (1928-26 March 2024), sponsored three days of Amitabha Puja starting from today at our Kirtipur gompa.
Mayumla doted on Gyaltsen a lot. She was always concerned about his well-being and he visited her as frequently as he possibly could. Their banters were their love language.
It is a Tibetan practice to do the first anniversary of a deceased in advance. By doing this Amitabha puja, we honour Mayumla’s first anniversary and sincerely pray and dedicate all merits to her. We have started the annual grand Mahakala puja from 20 February 2025 until 27 February 2025. The final day falls on Tibetan Losar. During these 8 days, we focus on this practice, make elaborate offerings and recitations to dispel negativities and bring auspiciousness.
Mahakala holds specific significance in our Karma Kagyu lineage. He serves as our primary protector, sharing a unique connection with our lineage heads the Karmapas. Yolmo pilgrimage by senior anis of Tharpa Choeling Nunnery, Jan 2025.
Yolmo is a truly blessed place where it conceals many sacred caves of the great masters of the past, such as Guru Rinpoche and the Great Yogi Milarepa, and also Buddhist masters of the present. They had accomplished practice and subdued local spirits in Yolmo.
The hidden land of Yolmo, enclosure of snows, is also known as Padma Tsal, ‘lotus grove sanctuary’.
The most renowned cave in Yolmo is Yangdak Chok.
Marpa instructed Milarepa to go to Yolmo, and so Milarepa meditated there for three years, in the Tiger Cave Fortress.
There, in the Tapuk Senge Dzong (Tiger Cave Fortress), Milarepa sang “The Song of a Yogi’s Joy,” one of the one hundred thousand songs of Milarepa. He sang:
In the wood on Singa Mountain,I, Milarepa, meditate on Voidness,Not because I fear to lose my understanding—Constant meditation is the yogi’s way.

Hill-Town School, the public school that our schooling anis are attending, has been organizing a historic event ‘Hill - Town Singing Idol - 2081’ and Hill - Town Dancing Idol - 2081.
The school created this program with the aim to provide an open platform to enhance and explore Singing and Dancing skills for the students.
Our Ani Yogita from class 9 of Hill-Town School has been selected for her singing too! We are very happy at her achievement 😃 Heartiest congratulations to all students who have been selected for the HILL-TOWN SINGING IDOL - 2081 final grand competition.

An artistic young lady named Kelina volunteered at our Kirtipur gompa. Staying near our gompa, Kelina said she adores our anis and wanted to teach art to our young anis. Anis paid great attention to her detailed instructions and applied them accordingly. With Kelina's guidance and feedback, we think young anis did a wonderful job at their art creations.
